General Questions

Q. What are the continuing education requirements?

A. Wisconsin law requires real estate licensees to complete 12 hours of continuing education every two years. There are several options to fulfill this requirement: attend live courses and pass a corresponding exam for each course, pass a test-out exam or take another state-approved program such as the WRA’s distance education program.

Q. Do I need to complete the CE requirement to renew my real estate license?

A. The Department of Regulation and Licensing shall withhold issuance of the renewal license until they have received a completed application with the appropriate fee. The licensee may not engage in the practice of real estate until having submitted such evidence and having received the license. A person who received an original broker's or salesperson's license during the two-year licensing period and who was not licensed to practice as either a broker or salesperson on the first day of the biennium is not required to satisfy the continuing education requirement during this two-year licensure period. All other licensees are required to complete the continuing education requirement.

Q. What type of material is covered in CE courses ?

A. The continuing education series includes four 3-hour courses, each of which must be taken if the licensee does not successfully test-out of this requirement. Each course covers Department of Regulation and Licensing-approved CE material and contains an exam of not less than 15 questions. There are three different options available to you to fulfill your continuing education requirement.
