Nationwide Open House April 10-11, 2010 an Opportunity for Wisconsin REALTORS®

MADISON, WI – On April 10-11, REALTORS® across the nation will hold open houses to mark the first-ever Nationwide Open House Weekend. The event, created by local and state realtor associations, gives sellers the chance to showcase their homes and prospective buyers to shop for a home while the homebuyer tax credit, expiring April 30, is still available.
For Wisconsin REALTORS®, this is an opportunity to use the momentum of a national campaign to educate prospective buyers on the benefits of home ownership and housing opportunities in Wisconsin. And the event’s timing can only help: interest rates are low, home prices are affordable and the homebuyer tax credit expiration date is still weeks away.
"Real estate purchasing is all about timing, and right now Wisconsin has a great variety and volume of inventory of homes for buyers," explains John Flor, Chairman of the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association. "Mortgage rates still remain at historical lows, and money is available to qualified buyers. The Tax Credit will expire at the end of April and getting so the timing of this open house event is important to help consumers understand all the facts about buying a home in the Wisconsin real estate market," adds Flor.
Buyers who wish to qualify for the tax credit must sign a contract to purchase a home on or before April 30, 2010, but they have until July 1, 2010 to close on the home. For more details about the tax credit, visit a consumer-based Web site developed by the REALTORS® at www.wisconsinhomebuyer.org.
To help raise the event’s profile and spread the word, REALTORS® are encouraged to display blue balloons with the REALTOR® logo on them during open houses, develop signage and other marketing materials.
Already, the event has stirred attention from prospective buyers, and many are planning to use the weekend to view as many homes as possible. How can REALTORS® do their part? By helping these buyers make smart decisions; decisions that include looking out for the signature blue balloons on April 10-11.
