Q. How can I earn the ABR designation?

A. The WRA's 2-day Buyer Agency course will provide you with specialized knowledge and different solutions to effectively service this niche market. To earn the ABR designation, you must complete this 2-day course plus one elective course. 

In addition, candidates must:

  • be members in good standing with a local Board/Association of REALTORSŪ and the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council (REBAC).
  • submit evidence of acting as a buyer's representative in 5 documented and verifiable real estate transactions (valid transactions are those that occurred anytime prior to and up to 36 months after the date the course was completed).  
  • Complete the course and pass a written exam
  • Complete a 1-day elective ABR course

Q. What is REBAC?

A. REBAC is the largest association of real estate professionals focusing specifically on the aspects of buyer representation. There are more than 50,000 members of the organization in the United States and Canada. REBAC's membership includes practitioners of all forms of agency representation, including exclusive buyer agency, single agency, limited dual agency and transactional brokers.

Q. How do I join REBAC?

A. The only way to join REBAC is by successfully completing the ABR Designation Course, for  which you will receive one year free membership in REBAC.  Your first membership invoice will be sent  in November/December and will only cover the months remaining in the calendar year after your free membership expired, bringing your billing into a calendar year billing cycle.

Q. What is the cost of annual REBAC membership?

A. REBAC annual membership dues are $110.00. Your first year's membership in REBAC is included free with successful completion of the ABRŪ Designation Course.  Dues are billed annually, with your first dues invoice pro-rated to bring your membership to a calendar billing cycle.

Q. Why would I want to earn the ABR designation?

A. This designation identifies you as a real estate agent who has demonstrated a serious commitment to the practice of buyer agency. It shows that you have received professional training above and beyond the minimum requirements for licensing and that you are committed to providing top-level service.

Other Questions Regarding ABR

Q. I earned my ABR in one state, but am now preparing to be licensed in another. Is my ABR still valid?

A. Yes, once you have earned the ABR, all other states will recognize it.

Q. I noticed that my ABR designation does not appear in NRDS. How do I get this to appear?

A. The WRA is your point of entry for ABR data for NRDS. Please email us at educate@wra.org and we will submit the information to NRDS.

Q. I have earned the ABR designation, but am planning to disaffiliate from the REALTORSŪ organization. May I still use the designation on my business card and marketing materials?

A. No. In order to use the ABR designation mark, you must be a member in good standing with the National Association of REALTORSŪ.
