Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) Designation

 

Q. What is ALC designation?

A. ALC: Accredited Land Consultant. ALC's are the recognized experts in land brokerage transactions of five specialized types: (1) farms and ranches; (2) undeveloped tracts of land; (3) transitional and development land; (4) subdivision and wholesaling of lots; and (5) site selection and assemblage of land parcels. RLI, the provider of the ALC designation, is the only real estate organization dedicated to serving real estate professionals who broker, lease, sell, develop and manage land. It's an organization of land professionals, by land professionals, and for land professionals. Members who meet advanced education and experiential requirements are awarded the ALC designation, the mark of a land expert.

Q. How can I earn the ALC designation?

A. RLI members who successfully complete their first RLI-approved course automatically become candidates for the ALC designation. RLI member retain candidacy status, coursework, and credit earned toward the ALC designation provided they maintain membership in the Institute.

Education: ALC candidates who wish to apply for the designation must successfully complete 120 credits of RLI-approved courses, including three required courses. RLI Land University courses of at least two days length count as 20 credits toward the ALC Knowledge Requirement. All other courses will be reviewed and granted credit based on the applicability to land specialists.

Experience Requirements: ALC candidates must document their involvement in either:

  • $5,000,000 in land transactions (sale, purchase or lease) or

  • A minimum of 25 separate land transactions, of which no more than 80 percent involve residential lot sales.

In order to qualify, transactions must be completed within the preceding five years of the ALC applications date.
