Statement Regarding Lautenschlager Endorsement

Date:  February 1, 2006

By WRA President William Malkasian, CAE

We are endorsing Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager because she is the best choice for homeowners in the 2006 Democratic primary election. As both a state legislator and Attorney General, Peg Lautenschlager has supported issues of vital importance to Wisconsin's real estate industry and the homeowners and property owners we represent. As a legislator, she earned an 80% voting record on key real estate-related issues. As Attorney General, she recognized the need to protect individual property rights when the courts dramatically expanded the government's power of eminent domain, as well as the balance necessary to protect both consumers and real estate licensees in real estate transactions.

Lautenschlager's experience on real estate and homeowner issues stands in stark contrast with her primary opponent who has been an aggressive advocate for overly restrictive land use policies that needlessly encumber the rights of property owners. By contrast, Peg Lautenschlager recognizes the need to balance public and private land use interests in Wisconsin.

Realtors voting in the Democratic primary will be encouraged to vigorously support and vote for Peg Lautenschlager. Our association will review the outcome of the primary election and make a separate endorsement decision in the general election.
