REALTORS®
ENDORSE BUTLER FOR SUPREME COURT
Statement from William
Malkasian
President, Wisconsin REALTORS®
Association
December 19, 2007
Madison - The Wisconsin REALTORS®
Association (WRA) and its 18,000 members consistently support
candidates for public office with demonstrated competence,
commitment to public service and an awareness of issues that
affect private property rights and real estate professionals.
While judicial elections are unique, the WRA has regularly
chosen to endorse candidates in Supreme Court races because of
the importance of sustaining a capable and independent
judiciary.
For the spring 2008 election for the Wisconsin Supreme Court,
the WRA has endorsed Justice Louis Butler for a full 10-year
term. In his four years on the bench, Justice Butler has
demonstrated his ability to apply the law in a fair and
impartial manner that has served the citizens of Wisconsin well.
Our endorsement decision was based on a thorough review of the
candidates’ records and direct interviews regarding judicial
philosophy generally and real estate-related legal issues
specifically. On all of these issues, Justice Butler has
demonstrated he has the competence, intelligence and
independence to serve on Wisconsin’s highest court.
We believe in the fundamental rights of property owners to buy,
sell, own and use their land responsibly and that these rights
should be protected by our courts. Justice Louis Butler has
demonstrated his support for these fundamental rights and thus
deserves our support.
The primary election will be held on February 19, 2008 and the
general election is April 1, 2008.
