Wisconsin’s
housing market in 2006 was strong despite a
decline off
of record sales volume in 2005, according to a recent analysis
of existing home sales conducted by the Wisconsin REALTORS®
Association (WRA). “The fact that housing sales moderated in
2006 is not surprising given the record pace of home sales over
the past several years,” said WRA President William Malkasian.
“Indeed, we have had a remarkable market that grew at a torrid
pace in spite of the shock of 9/11, the 2001 recession and the
relatively slow pace of the recovery coming out of the
recession,” said Malkasian. “While the nation as a whole and
individual regions around the country have all experienced some
decline in sales, the fundamentals of the economy – namely
solid employment growth, ongoing household formation and
relatively low mortgage rates – will continue to fuel the
housing market,” noted Malkasian. “For Wisconsin to be within
4.5 percent of its all-time high annual sales volume indicates
a solid housing market,” he said.
