Wisconsin REALTORS® Association: 2024 Dues Increase FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About the WRA Dues Increase for 2024

The WRA general fund faces increasing costs and declining revenues, yet dues for general operations have not been raised in 11 years. At the same time, demands on our very successful RPAC program are increasing dramatically. While the WRA provides world-class advocacy, education and legal programs and services, our new strategic plan will create even greater funding demands. For these reasons, the WRA board of directors has decided to increase total WRA dues $100: $50 for general operations and $50 for the REALTOR® Action Assessment to RPAC. In total, our new dues level will position us for success today and in the future and make the WRA EVEN better!

What is the REALTOR® Action Assessment?

Starting in 2024, a portion of your WRA membership dues includes a $50 political contribution to the Wisconsin REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC). This new contribution will make your experience as a WRA member even better.

In 2022, 35% of WRA members voluntarily contributed to RPAC, yet all members benefited from the success of the WRA’s advocacy efforts. In 2023, the WRA board of directors determined that 35% of the membership should not shoulder the burden for the entire membership, and thus the board unanimously approved the $50 REALTOR® Action Assessment.

In addition, the WRA’s 2023 strategic plan directs the WRA to be more involved in local advocacy in order to make your membership even better. Because local government has the most significant impact on the real estate industry, the WRA’s strategic plan calls for more involvement in local elections for county board, city council and circuit court.

I would like my $50 REALTOR® Action Assessment contribution to be directed elsewhere instead of RPAC. Is that possible?

Yes. You may redirect the $50 RPAC contribution instead to the Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance (WHA).

How do I redirect my $50 from the REALTOR® Action Assessment to the WHA?

To redirect this $50 contribution, email your request to redirectaction@wra.org. In your emailed request, simply indicate that you would like your REALTOR® Action Assessment redirected to the WHA instead of RPAC, and include your WRA ID as well as your first and last name. Redirect requests must be made within 48 hours of the time that you pay your membership dues, otherwise the redirect will not be honored.

Is the REALTOR® Action Assessment legal?

Yes. In addition to consultation with private legal counsel, the assessment was approved by the Wisconsin Ethics Commission.

Have other states have adopted a similar action assessment?

Yes. Four other state associations — California, Indiana, Oregon and Washington — have adopted a similar action assessment to make their membership experience even better. When given the option to contribute to a political action committee or to an issues fund, 98% of the membership in those organizations invested their money in the political action committee.

Is the REALTOR® Action Assessment tax deductible?

No. Wisconsin law does not allow a tax deduction for contributions to a political action committee.

I would like to discuss the REALTOR® Action Assessment. Who can I contact?
