2017 Convention Recap

Over 1,200 Wisconsin REALTORS® attended the WRA annual convention last month at the Potawatomi Convention Hotel & Casino in Milwaukee. Not only was the convention held at a new venue this year, but the event was sold out! Registration numbers reached their max on the day prior to the convention. That’s something to cheer about!

Convention Day 1

Day 1 was the perfect mix between work and play. The day kicked off with Opening Session. During Opening Session, several Wisconsin REALTORS® received awards, including First Weber Inc. chairman Jim Imhoff receiving the WRA Lifetime Achievement Award. Also during Opening Session, Peter Sveum was installed as the 2017-18 WRA chairman of the board along with the 2017-18 leadership team and board of directors. Keynote speaker Scott Burrows spoke in his “Vision – Mindset – Grit: Success Strategies to Help You Stand Up to Any Challenge” address about how he reinvented his life after a crippling accident that left him paralyzed. He even gave a portion of his address while standing!

Also on Day 1, convention attendees also browsed over 50 exhibits and learned about products and services relevant for real estate practice. In addition to visiting exhibits, convention guests took part in CE courses as well as several workshops.

The fun kept on going with Chairman’s Reception that evening where newly installed chairman Peter Sveum visited with REALTORS® over with hors d’oeuvres, drinks and a live jazz band. Later that night, guests enjoyed the Icebreaker “Chill by the Grill” Tailgate Party. Attendees came dressed in biggest sports fan costumes and had a great time playing sports games, eating, drinking and dancing!

Convention Day 2

Day 2 began with real estate expert Leigh Brown with her “Seven Deadly Sins of Sales” address during General Session. With her high energy and no-nonsense approach, Leigh made a passionate plea for REALTORS® to increase professionalism, do what’s right for the client and take action with RPAC contributions. A lucky winner during General Session also took home $500 during the convention raffle drawing.

Real estate CE continued on Day 2 as well as appraisal CE and workshops. In several workshops that day, convention attendees learned new ideas about electronic disclosure, negotiating, Facebook marketing and much more.
We enjoyed the convention and hope you did too. See you next year at the convention at the Kalahari Resort on September 18-19, 2018, in Wisconsin Dells!
