Avoiding Data Security Roadkill

The REALTOR¬ģ¬†Code of Ethics and Standard of Practice 1-9 indicates that REALTORS¬ģ¬†are obligated to preserve the confidentiality of personal information provided by clients in the course of any agency or non-agency relationship -both during and after the termination of these business relationships.

The nature of real estate requires us to receive, transmit and keep the public's most valuable information. We are routinely responsible for safeguarding a person's digital life, yet most agents lack data-protection training, systems or worst-case scenario preparation, such as:

  • Data security and consumer privacy training.
  • Data breach insurance policy and prevention plan for the public.
  • Data Breach Rapid Response Team (Specialized Professional Contractors) for the public.
  • Printed list of recommendations for the public so their information does not get compromised.
  • List of obvious and not-so-obvious signs a real estate email is fraudulent.
  • Process ensuring the public will not unknowingly wire hard-earned funds to a thief.
  • List of best practices and things to absolutely not do so the public is not harmed.

We can no longer be reckless with the public's data. Gone are the days when an agent could toss a deal folder in the backseat of the car or leave the public's personal information on their desk overnight without potential consequences.

This is the eye-opening session the public wishes you had taken years ago. You will be given tools that can be implemented immediately to ensure you are protecting the public from harm.

You'll leave this session with the ability to:

  • List the habits that create liability for the public.
  • Recognize the signs of a data breach.
  • Identify the danger of not advising the public about the steps for risk reduction.
  • Understand the importance of document destruction to safeguard the public's information.

  • Understand how the public gets harmed and why it can be so devastating and at times impossible to recover from.
  • Identify the importance of having a data-theft insurance policy that protects the public for the cost of the transaction.
  • Describe the orientation training you should offer to the public.
  • Understand why, statistically, a breach is likely to happen to you or the public.
  • Explain why the public needs multiple disclosures on data security.
  • Identify the importance of having a data protection email signature using a NAR sample.
  • Recognize why seniors are often the most vulnerable to a data breach.
  • Identify the most common ways the public is tricked into giving financial information to a thief.
  • Understand why all breaches can't be prevented.

This fast-paced session is packed with information to help REALTORS¬ģ understand the various facets of property pricing and evaluation while comparing and contrasting a BPO/CMA and an appraisal. You‚Äôll learn useful tips for accurately pricing a property based on analyzing supply and demand in a marketplace, focusing on the type of property and neighborhood, establishing neighborhood parameters in terms of price range and price per square foot, analyzing sales data with respect to units of comparison, and more. Creating Your Pre-listing Package

Think of your pre-listing package as an introduction package that sets the stage for your seller relationships. How to Launch Your Podcast in Three Hours or Less

Did you know that more Americans know what a podcast is than know who the vice president is? I didn’t think so! Here are a few more interesting statistics about podcasting:

  • 124 million Americans have listened to at least one podcast ‚ÄĒ that‚Äôs 44 percent of our population!
  • 26 percent of Americans listen to podcasts monthly. For comparison, 21 percent of Americans are Catholic.¬†
  • In 2018, 48 million Americans listened to podcasts weekly, which increased from 6 million from 2017.
  • In 2017, Edison Research found podcast listeners consumed an average of five different podcasts each week. In 2018, that average increased to seven different podcasts.

What does all mean for your real estate business?

Podcasting is super important for real estate agents to create as a part of their ongoing on the business activity. Why? Podcasting can be the biggest bang for your buck when landing new clients and nurturing existing ones.
