WRA Endorses Walker

The WRA board of directors voted to endorse Scott Walker for Wisconsin Governor and Rebecca Kleefisch for Lieutenant Governor in the 2018 gubernatorial election on November 6. The board‚Äôs unanimous decision followed unanimous recommendations from the WRA Political Strategy Group and the trustees of the REALTORS¬ģ¬†Political Action Committee (RPAC). The board is pleased to endorse Gov. Walker for a third four-year term based on his continued support on a wide variety of pro-business and pro-REALTOR¬ģ¬†issues over his eight years as governor of the Badger State.

The Walker record: 165 priorities signed into law

Gov. Walker has been a champion for REALTOR¬ģ¬†issues and the real estate industry during his entire political career. Since becoming governor in 2011, Walker has signed approximately 165 legislative priorities into law, which included liability protection for REALTORS¬ģ, protecting property rights, reducing property taxes and cutting regulatory red tape. As governor, Walker has strongly supported REALTORS¬ģ, homeowners and property owners on a broad range of issues over the last four years. Here are just a few examples:

  • Eliminating time of sale requirements.
  • Reducing property taxes.
  • Protecting REALTOR¬ģ¬†liability through a two-year statute of limitations.
  • Protecting REALTOR¬ģ¬†rights to complete state-approved forms.
  • Preserving the historic rehabilitation tax credit.
  • Updating landlord/tenant regulations.
  • Removing regulatory barriers to residential and commercial development.
  • Expanding broadband access to underserved areas.
  • Making homeownership and property ownership more affordable.
  • Reforming wetland regulations.
  • Approving right-to-rent legislation
  • Protecting private property rights.
  • Eliminating the rental weatherization program and open stipulations.
  • Redesigning the real estate condition report.
  • Amending the definition of ‚Äúbroker‚ÄĚ and creating a definition of ‚Äúdefect‚ÄĚ between the statutes and the offer to purchase.
  • In addition to the issues outlined above, Gov. Walker has provided the leadership to accomplish the following efforts:
  • Eliminate a $3.6 billion state budget deficit when he was first elected and generated a budget surplus of $38.5 million today.
  • Reduce Wisconsin‚Äôs tax burden by cutting property, income and business taxes by $8 billion over eight years.
  • Sign more far-reaching property rights bills into law than any other governor in Wisconsin history.

The WRA’s unanimous decision to endorse Gov. Walker was not difficult based on his record on our issues. In addition to supporting him for a third term as governor, the WRA has supported Walker in every election since 1993, when he was first elected to the state Assembly in a special election.

Over his eight years as governor, the Wisconsin economy has improved significantly. Real estate sales are very strong, unemployment is at record lows at 2.9 percent, the overall tax burden is the lowest in decades, and landing Foxconn was a big victory and could reap huge economic rewards for the state for many years to come.

The WRA board of directors urges your support for Gov. Walker in the November 2018 election. He has earned our support. In the months ahead, you’ll receive additional information regarding this important race.
