Convention Recap

Over 1,100 Wisconsin REALTORS® attended the WRA annual convention last month at the Kalahari Resort & Convention Center in Wisconsin Dells. Convention attendees enjoyed workshops and CE classes, networking opportunities, exhibits and keynote speakers.

More than 70 REALTORS® got together for the convention golf outing on the day before the convention began. In addition to a round of 18 holes at Trappers Turn Golf Club in the Dells, golfers also enjoyed a putting contest, prizes, beer and lunch!

Convention Day 1

Day 1 was the perfect mix between work and play. The day began with the new Convention Kickoff/Networking Breakfast. More than 100 REALTORS® networked together over a delicious breakfast buffet and listened to DSPS Secretary Gutierrez explain the application and renewal process. Later that morning during Opening Session, Jean Stefaniak was installed as the 2018-19 WRA chairman of the board along with the 2018-19 leadership team and board of directors. Keynote speaker Colette Carlson spoke in her “Many Communicate. Few Connect.” address about how clear communication just doesn’t cut it anymore; instead, real connection with each other must be part of the equation in developing and fostering beneficial relationships.

Also on Day 1, convention attendees browsed over 60 exhibits and learned about products and services relevant for real estate practice. In addition to visiting exhibits, convention guests took part in CE courses as well as several workshops.

The day continued with Chairman’s Reception that evening where newly installed chairman Jean Stefaniak visited with REALTORS® over hors d’oeuvres, drinks and a live jazz band. Later that night, guests enjoyed the Icebreaker “Funky Town — Get Your Shine On” Party. Hundreds of partiers felt the funk and came dressed in their disco costumes and had a great time playing games, eating, drinking and dancing!

Convention Day 2

Day 2 began with workshops and CE. Later in the morning, nonverbal communication expert Jan Hargrave enlightened REALTORS® with her “Time to Shine: Understanding Nonverbal Communication when Selling” address during General Session. Jan explained how 55 percent of communication is nonverbal, 38 percent comes from voice inflection and only 7 percent comes from actual verbal communication. REALTORS® left Jan’s session ready to know what their next client is thinking without even asking! A lucky winner during General Session also took home $500 in the convention raffle drawing.

Real estate CE continued on Day 2 as well as appraisal CE and more workshops. In several workshops that day, convention attendees learned new ideas about Evernote for business, business planning, working in a low-inventory market and much more.

See you next year at the convention at the Kalahari Resort on September 10-11, 2019, in Wisconsin Dells!
