Out-of-State License
Learn how an out-of-state licensee can obtain a Wisconsin real estate license.
Licensed in another state and looking to work in Wisconsin? See the steps below to obtain your Wisconsin real estate license. The WRA offers all required courses online, and you have six months from registration to complete them. After that, re-registration will be necessary.
Inactive Illinois or Indiana Sales License or active real estate licensee in another state
If your Illinois or Indiana license is inactive but was active within the past two years, or you're an active real estate licensee in another state, you can apply to obtain a Wisconsin salesperson license by endorsement.
Obtain a salesperson license by endorsement:
1. Fulfill one education requirement:

- Complete 10 semester credits in real estate-related courses.
- Complete the 13-hour Wisconsin Pre-license Course.

3. Submit your application to the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
Applicants applying for a Wisconsin sales license will need to show proof of their current license when submitting their application to the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
Active Illinois or Indiana Managing Broker License
If you hold an active managing broker license in Illinois or Indiana, you're exempt from the Wisconsin education requirement and can take the broker exam directly. Prior to taking the Wisconsin exam, you must have a current license in good standing as a licensed managing broker in Illinois or Indiana. The original license in the reciprocal state must have been issued on the basis of passing the state’s examination.
