Hotline FAQs

Who can use the WRA Legal Hotline?

The WRA Legal Hotline is a service provided exclusively to the members of the WRA and their attorneys. WRA dues pay for this service for members, and the service is not available to the public. For this reason, REALTORS® should not refer clients and customers to the hotline.

Which subject areas are covered by the hotline?

Generally, the hotline will respond to questions related to real estate practice, such as REEB regulations, the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, listing contracts, offers to purchase, forms use, disclosures, agency law, office management, general real estate law and other related issues. If your question requires information outside the scope of the hotline, you will be directed to the appropriate sources.

How and when can I reach the hotline?

The WRA Legal Hotline is available Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Central. For exceptions, see the holiday hours above.

You can call toll-free at 800-799-4468 or at 608-242-2296 anytime and leave a voicemail. In your message, be sure to include:

  • Your name (spell your last name).
  • Your phone number (with area code).
  • A summary of your question.
  • Your preferred time for a callback.

You can also submit your question online using the WRA website.

For a prompt response, direct questions to the hotline rather than an individual attorney. Hotline attorneys respond only during hotline hours.

When calling the hotline, can I talk to an attorney right away?

If your question is urgent, please explain the situation in your message and request an immediate response. The attorney will make every effort to respond to your question as soon as possible.

What happens when the attorney calls me back?

A hotline attorney will respond to your question by phone or email, depending on your request.

When addressing your question, the attorney will:

  • Identify key issues related to your situation.
  • Discuss your concerns and possible options.
  • Provide information to help you evaluate next steps.

Limitations of the hotline:

  • The WRA Legal Hotline provides legal information, not an attorney-client relationship.
  • Legal advice requires a full understanding of your practice and transaction details, which is not possible in this format.
  • Due to the high volume of calls, hotline attorneys cannot conduct extensive research, especially outside general real estate practice.
  • If your question requires specific legal advice or in-depth research, the attorney may suggest consulting private legal counsel.
