If you feel like everything is on the ballot in 2026, you’re not wrong.

This year's elections are shaping up to be one of the biggest moments Wisconsin has seen in a long time. Voters won’t just be choosing candidates — they’ll be deciding who sets the tone for the state’s future.

Both the state Assembly and Senate are in play, meaning control of the Wisconsin Legislature could shift. Wisconsin will also elect a new governor, with an open seat on the ballot for the first time in years. Add in an open congressional seat and a Wisconsin Supreme Court race, and you’ve got a packed, high-stakes election cycle from top to bottom.

Why this matters for housing and property taxes

These races aren’t happening in a vacuum. The leaders elected in 2026 will help decide how Wisconsin tackles some of its most pressing challenges, including housing affordability and the state’s heavy reliance on property taxes.

State lawmakers and the next governor will shape policies that influence  influence housing production, construction costs and whether communities can grow in a way that keeps prices affordable. They’ll also have a major say in how local governments and schools are funded, which directly affects property tax bills for homeowners and businesses alike.

Even the Wisconsin Supreme Court race matters here. Court decisions can shape how tax laws are interpreted, how regulations are applied, and how disputes affecting property owners are resolved.

Bottom line: The choices voters make in 2026 will have real, everyday impacts — on whether housing is within reach, on how much Wisconsinites pay in property taxes, and on the long-term affordability of living and doing business in our state.
