File a Complaint
Have a Complaint?
Before filing a complaint with the WRA, you must first determine if the real estate agent involved is a REALTOR® by searching the WRA's Find a REALTOR® database.
Only real estate agents who belong to a REALTOR® association can use the term "REALTOR®." When joining an association, all members agree to abide by the REALTOR® Code of Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS® as a condition of membership. It is because of this obligation to abide by the Code that you can file a complaint at a REALTOR® association.
If you have a concern or dispute with a REALTOR®, to resolve your dispute you have the following options:
1. Contact the broker
Contact the individual's broker to discuss your concern. A conversation with the broker often leads to quick resolution.
2. Contact the REALTOR®'s local association
The REALTOR®’s local board or association may be able to help you resolve your concern through a confidential, information dispute resolution service, known as ombudsman services. These services are designed to help REALTORS®, clients and consumers resolve questions, concerns and misunderstanding through constructive communication before escalating to formal ethics complaints. You can find the REALTOR®'s local board or association by searching the WRA's Find a REALTOR® database.
3. File an ethics complaint with the WRA
File an ethics complaint with the WRA statewide professional standards enforcement program. Alternative dispute resolution options are also available.
4. File a complaint with the state of Wisconsin for potential license law violations
File a complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). All real estate licensees are regulated by the DSPS, and consumers or other licensees may bring alleged violations of laws governing real estate practice to the attention of the DSPS.
